The big Kia is getting some lovin' in Sweden

Record Month

After a great September for plug-ins, October is starting on the same note, with a record performance from the Swedish market, with 2.204 units registered in Sweden last month, up 82% over the same period last year, while pulling the EV Share to a record 5%. Will we see this market reach 5% 5.5% by year end?

Either way, October also broke the yearly record (13.415 units), set last year, with sales up 46% YoY, registrations are now at 15.474, so we might see this market reach the 20.000 units by year end.

Looking at October Best Sellers, the podium spots have no surprises, with the leader Volkswagen Passat GTE scoring 535 units (33% of all Passat sales), which would place it in #10 at the general ranking, in Second the Kia Optima PHEV continues to impress, with 277 units (73% of all Optima sales), thanks to the popularity of the Station Wagon version.

The Mitsubishi closes the podium in Third, with 213 registrations, corresponding to 84% of all Outlander sales. With the plug-in share rising to significant levels, more and more models will depend their success from the outcome of their plug-in versions.

Interestingly, two Volvo show up right after the medal places, with the XC60 PHEV starting to live up to its potential by delivering 138 units, while the veteran V60 PHEV delivered its best performance of the year, registering 132 units.

Looking at the YTD models ranking, there were a few changes, with the most important being the rise of the Kia Optima PHEV to Third Place, dropping the Nissan Leaf to Fourth, with the #5 Renault Zoe (119 units, new pb), now looking to surpass it and become the Best Selling BEV in this market.

The Volvo XC60 PHEV jumped six positions to #13, thanks to 138 units, while a few positions below, the #20 Mini Countryman PHEV continues to rise, scoring 66 units (New personal best), promising to climb even higher in the next few months.

At the bottom of this ranking, we see the Kia Niro PHEV landing, with 59 units, a good start for a model that should have a great career in this market.

On the EV manufacturers ranking, the #1 Volkswagen (28%) has to thank the Passat GTE for pulling the weight of the leadership, with Mitsubishi and BMW (13%) both running for Second Place, with the Japanese brand ahead by just 42 units.

Volvo is Fourth, with 10% share, is looking to close in on the podium bearers and having a shot at a Bronze Medal.
