Portugal October 2015

Has the Zoe finally reached its full potential?

Renault Zoe Excels Edition

EV Sales are rising in Portugal, something that is particularly visible in Lisbon's Metropolitan Area, with sales doubling regarding the same month last year, and with YTD sales now at 872 units (Will we reach 1.000 by year end?), the EV Share is steady at 0,57%, a significant departure from the 0,25% of last year.

Looking at the models ranking, the Mitsu Outlander PHEV stayed #1 in the YTD chart, but the surprise of the month belonged to another model...

The Renault Zoe sold a record 19 units, just the second time it reached the two digit area, collecting only its second Monthly Best Seller trophy ever (The first was in Dec. '14), an odd fact for a model that has been on sale for over two years, especially considering that Renault has the largest dealership network in Portugal and is the best selling automotive brand.

Does this mean Renault's sales force is finally willing to sell the Zoe?

As the song says: "Que sera, sera / Whatever will be, will be / The future's not ours to see / Que sera sera..."

In the manufacturers ranking, Mitsubishi (24% Share) is first, followed by Nissan (20%), Renault (19%, up 1%) and BMW (14%).

The i3 is also doing well in Portugal. Did you forget to add the division between REx and BEV, or is that info not available?

    1. And i expect that the i3 will increase even further their sales, now that it has nationwide coverage and it's not exclusive of the two standalone i sub-brand dealerships (One in Lisbon, the other in Porto).

At least in Algarve, i expect it to have a good reception of the i3.

This month i don't have breakdown in Bev / Rex sales, sorry.

  2. I hope the rate sales of EVs will go further up until the end of this year with the interest I saw in the last Lisbon Auto Show in the beginning of this month. I was there in last 8 Nov and I saw a relatively high interest in BMW i3, and Zoe from potential owners. Sadly, in the Nissan stand, they put a Nissan Leaf but mislead the price, specifications and versions. I told that to the man who was in charge (after waiting for him a lot of time) and he had to go to his manager to confirm the fact. So bad selling management continues... But I saw almost all the Hybrid plug-ins and Evs available in Portuguese market, and the offer is becoming more and more interesting. Sadly, the Queen of EV brands was missing as we already knew. No Tesla there... Even, if Tesla was already in our market (maybe at the second half of next year?), they would not be there as this auto show was a car dealers auto show and not an auto makers auto show like Paris one's, at least as I can remember when I used to live in France.

    1. It's interesting that you had a bad experience in Nissan, i had more or less the same experience, but in Renault :-)

Yes, it was a shame Tesla wasn't there, i'm curious to see how they behave "officially" in Portugal, at first i was skeptic about their acceptance here, but now that i see some Model S zooming around Lisbon, i think they might get enough market to sell some 100/200 ModelS/X per year.

Oh, and i have noticed at the Auto Show that VW is finally willing to sell their electrics, although they are just not ready yet so make some customer-friendly discounts...Step by step, right?

Meanwhile Nissan, Mitsubishi and BMW all say: "Thank you!" to VW's (High) price politics...

  3. José I noticed in the Tesla Motors Club they have a page for statistic about Model S sales in Europe with a very useful chart (http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showwiki.php?title=Europe+2015+Model+S+sales)but with nothing about Portugal sales.
I would to put there some last Portuguese sales numbers but failed to find it in the ACAP site. Sure there is slaes statistics by brands but no Tesla there, nor in Autoinforma charts. I thought you find the numbers for Model S sales in Portugal but I'm not seeing it. So, I wonder if I could add some Portuguese statistics in the Tesla Motors club site based in yours figures citing your site as source?

    1. Yes you can, but bare in mind that they are an indication and not the actual number.

As in many countries, there aren't official numbers regarding Tesla in Portugal, especially since Tesla isn't yet "officially" here, the ones that are registered are either grey imports or bought directly to the manufacturer through the their website.

  4. Ok Thanks. So I will try to put there the last YTD number you had published, maybe in Yellow as estimates figures.
